We are so glad you are interested in serving with Hope Project in the country of Nicaragua.
The primary objective of the trip will be to build homes for families. No construction experience is required, there are jobs for every skill level.
The team will be staying at a guesthouse specifically opporated for short-term missions teams in Managua and serving in a barrio just outside of the city of Tipitapa.
$1000 + Airfare
The cost of the trip covers all expenses in Nicaragua (lodging, meals, transportation, entrance fees for tourist actives), the only money needed is spending money. Hope Project will purchase and arrange plane tickets for each participant.
Hope Project International supports the work of a local church ministry in Nicaragua. Through their ministry children are fed, homes are built, education is made possible, and life skills are taught. They are doing a fantastic job of implementing a process to help their community and not just give them a hand out. We are going to support the work that they are doing. We are not going to help them find a better way or to help them improve their systems, we trust in the systems created by the people who live in this community day in and day out and the strategic plans working to bring about aid and life change. The results are evident and we are thankful for their hard work and dedication.
The housing we will stay in is a guest house with a capacity of hosting 64 people. The guesthouse is dormitory style housing with the majority of the beds being bunk beds with bathrooms in almost every room. There are guards that protect the property 24 hours a day, cleaning women and cooks. The cooks will prepare a delicious breakfast and dinner for us each day. The kitchen is not available for individual use. There will be filtered water available at the guest house. Food is generally rice and beans, a protein, and fruit and/or vegetables. For lunches on the work site we will have a sack lunch style lunch (sandwich and chips).
Water from the tap should never be used for drinking or brushing teeth. Where we are staying has indoor plumbing, however the sewage system cannot support paper products. Because of this, toilet paper should never be placed in the toilet. Bathrooms have waste baskets in all of the stalls to dispose of any paper products.
The government in Nicaragua currently requires either vaccination or a negative PCR test results for entry. These requirements could be lifted at any moment.
