TRIP DETAILS

Hope Project International supports the work of a local church ministry in Nicaragua. Through their ministry children are fed, homes are built, education is made possible, and life skills are taught. They are doing a fantastic job of implementing a process to help their community and not just give them a handout. We are going to support the work that they are doing. We are not going to help them find a better way or to help them improve their systems, we trust in the systems created by the people who live in this community day in and day out and the strategic plans working to bring about aid and life change. The results are evident and we are thankful for their hard work and dedication.

The housing we will stay in is a guest house with a capacity of hosting 64 people. The guesthouse is dormitory-style housing with the majority of the beds being bunk beds with bathrooms in almost every room. There are guards that protect the property 24 hours a day, cleaning women and cooks. The cooks will prepare a delicious breakfast and dinner for us each day. The kitchen is not available for individual use. There will be filtered water available at the guest house. Food is generally rice and beans, protein, fruit, and/or vegetables. For lunches on the worksite, we will have a sack lunch style lunch (sandwich and chips).

Water from the tap should never be used for drinking or brushing teeth. Where we are staying has indoor plumbing, however, the sewage system cannot support paper products. Because of this, toilet paper should never be placed in the toilet. Bathrooms have wastebaskets in all of the stalls to dispose of any paper products.

All money is nonrefundable. The cost of this trip covers everything except spending money.

For personal spending money, please note that all US dollars brought need to be in bills completely unmarked, without damage. We recommend $10 or $20 bills.  Nicaraguans will not take marked or ripped US dollars. When you make your withdrawal from the bank for your spending money before the trip, you can request this and they should accommodate you.

COVID TRAVEL INFORMATION

The country of Nicaragua currently requires all travelers to test negative by PCR test within 72 hours of arrival. They also require these results to be submitted to the airline no later than 36 hours of arrival. This gives about a 36-hour window to be tested and receive the PCR results. There is a very specific way the results must be submitted. Megan Graffam is very familiar with this process and will submit the results for each team member. Please send a photo, scan, or digital results to Megan at megan@hopeprojectintl.com. As flights are confirmed, exact times of testing will be communicated with the team. Please be aware and communicate with the team of testing facilities who will return PCR results quickly.

The United States currently requires all travelers to test negative within 24 hours of travel. There is only one testing facility in Nicaragua for travelers. Megan Graffam will make arrangements for the team to be tested. The cost of the testing in Nicaragua is included in the price of the trip.

In the event of a positive test result in Nicaragua, The Graffams are well equipped to implement a plan of extended stay and safe return for that trip participant.
